Richard Guthrie Funeral

Richard Guthrie, a well-known and well-loved member of the Brattleboro community and former Brattleboro police chief passed away on Nov. 18th. A funeral was held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Brattleboro on Saturday, Nov. 22nd.

Protest Rally at Brattleboro TD Bank

A group of concerned citizens gathered outside TD Bank in Brattleboro on Friday afternoon for a peaceful protest. The protesters were concerned about climate change and TD Bank’s investment in the Keystone XL pipeline, as well as Vermont’s financial involvement with TD Bank.

Making it Official – Bobby Petrie’s Adoption

A group of around 50 friends and family filled the court room at Windham County Probate Court on Friday morning to watch as Lauren and David Petrie of Brattleboro officially adopted their 10 year-old son, Bobby, who has been in foster care with their family for over four years.

Academy School Spelling Team – State Spelling Bee

The Academy School spelling team (L-R) sixth graders Arth Patel, Katrina Tao, Rosie Carignan, Waylon Linn-Adams and fifth grader Eliana Merson will compete for the state title on Nov. 15 in Northfield against teams from Barre, Manchester, South Burlington and Middlebury. Since early September, the spellers have been meeting before school starts, four days a week, learning a list of 600+ words. Brattleboro has been well represented the past few years. In 2012 Green Street School won the state tournament, in 2013 Academy went to the state tournament but did not win and now, in 2014, Academy hopes to bring the championship back to Brattleboro.
